Heat waves ripple across too much pavement and steely automobiles, evaporating the moisture right off your eyes. Blink back the heat.
Find a way to stay chill today, Redding. You can do it. You always have.
Just another sunny day.

Okay these last two are from Winter. Sunny Winter. So think about Winter.

Got some extra warehouse space you can donate to the Cascade Theatre for productions?
Received this plea from fellow Realtor Suyen Leak today:
The Cascade Theatre has been able to use Riverfront Playhouse in the past to work on props and murals for their shows but this year they are starting demolition and construction for their new theatre and will not be available. This year's A Cascade Christmas and Fiddler on the Roof will need space to start building their props, murals and hopefully a place to store. Here are some more specs & details...... A space that is flat and unobstructed for a big backdrop to be laid down and painted ( a space About 1125 sqft building sg ft)...this is the min room for a backdrop, if we had a bit more room both ways for walk around room that would be great too....ideal space would be about 1500 sq ft ....we are very clean & thankful for any space that might fit these dimensions. If there was an additional enclosed or outside area where we could build sets & store them until show time that would be great too. The ideal dates are from Sept- end of April (For both Cascade Christmas & Fiddler on the Roof) We could exchange some comp tickets for the shows (Cascade Christmas, Fiddler on the Roof or Both...depending on how long we are able to use the space/for what shows) We could also exchange for advertising too & sponsor/program listing (close to 15,000 printed programs & over 20,000 audience viewers for both shows for advertising exposure) We have our own liability insurance, so we are covered there. It would be great if the space had a bathroom & lights (My backdrop painter often works odd/late hours so he would need a key so that he can come & go as needed) Please email or call me if you or any of your clients might have this type of warehouse space available. Thank you! ---------- SUYEN LEAK
A worthy cause. If you have anything, call me and I can pass it along to Suyen. If I don’t get any suggestions, I could always inform them of the option of prefabricated buildings to use as a storage facility and a place to build their props. I think this would be very ideal for their requirements and definitely something they should know about. However, anything you have is useful for Suyen to know about. Thanks! Skip 244 7603

The HDMI cable scam
As you may have noticed, HDMI cables are used daily and are a common household product, allowing tech owners to connect their various devices together. More often than not, if you were to purchase a gadget that needed an HDMI cable, then it would be delivered with an HDMI cable, eliminating the need to purchase one. However, because our gadgets are usually delivered with cables, choosing to learn more about the cables is a very unlikely occurrence. Of course, you may read the little information booklet that comes with the gadget but that’s not going to tell you how much any replacement parts are going to cost if they are to break or get damaged.
HDMI cables are currently used to connect HD televisions and computer monitors. I see these cables all the time in stores marked as high as $40 for so called “Hi Def High Speed” versions. That’s just crazy. It’s just wire. Buy them online at Monoprice for $6.
I always encourage people to buy local, but this is different. These are not local products. I realize that overpriced ‘super duper’ hype cables are a key part of certain local retailer’s profit margins, Just know that’s all it is. Overpriced hype.
The reason for this post is an ad I saw on Craigslist. Somebody selling a used cable for $45, that had a “retail value of $89.95.” I don’t doubt that some uninformed electronics buyer would be happy to buy a $90 cable for $45. Too bad it’s really a $6 dollar cable. Also hyped as “3D TV Ready.” People, it’s all just wire.
Northern California Outdoor Adventurers
I ran into this intriguing group of Northstate outdoor enthusiasts. And where better than the Redding area to be enthused about the outdoors?

Northern California Outdoor Adventurers is at the link. I first ran into them retweeting a notice about a meetup that was hiking up to the top of Lassen by the light of the full moon a few days ago. They posted some pictures at the link, and it was dark, evidently. Anyway, it looks like these folks just want to have fun together, and enjoy our region’s abundant natural bounty of goodness. Excellent. Check them out.

New video features Tony Meredith dancing about Redding
Tony Meredith is a wonderful local dancer. The video was shot around Redding, and is posted in hi-def. Warning, song lyrics NSFW. Unless like us, you work someplace tolerant of artistic vocabulary expression. Set it for higher definition.
I met Tony through the Dancing with the Stars Shasta County Style fundraising, and I have come to appreciate the skill and hard work that goes into the style. Nicely shot here. Dancing about Redding.

Craig Padilla releases new CD: Heart of The Soul
Redding’s popular electronic musician Craig Padilla has a new CD released on the Spotted Peccary label:

You can listen to some exceprts of Heart of The Soul the music and purchase a copy directly from the artist at the link. Craig let me audition some earlier mixes, so it’s been especially interesting to hear the evolution to this final masterwork. Give it a listen!

The CD packaging is as beautiful as the music. Longtime readers will recognize Craig from prior ReallyRedding posts, and from his many local gigs around Redding. He and I collaborated on numerous music projects over the years. Some of our recordings are posted at the tab toward the top of the page, titled Music. If you enjoy symphonic electronic music and generally adventurous ambient/space/electronica, you may want to click over and try a sample. Support local music.

The Finale approaches for Tenor’s Liquor
It’s difficult to believe, but a liquor store is going out of business in Redding.
Tenor’s belied it’s last-chance location with focused selection, and an incongruous ability to engage staff with a well informed conversation about single malt Scotch.
I’m told the owner’s interests shifted elsewhere, and so it goes.
Before it was Tenor’s, it was Roy’s. A blue collar standby. The property was slated for a game-changing upscale hotel. But big league dreams sometimes come and go in our town.
A toast to Tenor’s, then. Followed by a stiff shot. What dreams may come.
Meanwhile, 10% off for cash buyers on what remains in stock, for a few fleeting days.
