Congratulations to Brian Dahle for handily winning a second term as Assemblyman for the 1st District. His pragmatic approach to legislation is reflected here in this understated acceptance speech in Redding. Thanks also to Bruce Ross and Broker Erin Rader. Handheld video, so a bit shaky.
The republic is well served when business minded individuals step up to put their common sense approach to work for the greater good of our community. Thanks Brian, and family.
Redding is a small enough town that you can get to know your representatives with any effort at all. Face to face politics, it’s Really Redding.
Yes on Measure B rally strikes an optimistic chord
A few images from today’s enthusiastic Yes on B rally! The measure seeks voter approval to enable that a 4 Star Sheraton Hotel be built on this patch of shovel ready dirt.
Dirt which currently produces ZERO revenue. We need these jobs.
Please join me and your neighbors seen here who want something better for our town. Please vote yes on B. It’s Really Redding.
The State is sending low level offenders to Shasta County
But Wes and Sheriff Tom Bosenko have been involved in careful planning to make the best of the situation. In fact, we are told local authorities may very well be better able to reduce recidivism and provide rehabilitation. Of course, the bad news is that the State isn’t providing all that much money to cover the cost of moving their problems from state prisons to county jails. The move is happening no matter what.
We learned that putting inmates to work on the firelines carries more costs and training than you might might imagine. Although all agreed that was a good program, it may simply not be affordable. Also considered was the prospect of many hundreds of inmates trying to re-integrate into an already depressed economy with scarce jobs or opportunity. Of course, they are coming anyway, one way or another.
Thanks very much to everyone at the LWV of Redding for this informative talk, and to staff at Lema Ranch (and the McConnell Foundation) for hosting.

Women's Event offers local networking and education
Women Making History was an event held at the Atrium in Downtown Redding on March 21.

It was an opportunity to hear speakers and meet representatives from local Women’s and Family Services, like The NorthState Chapter of California Women Lead.

Featured speaker Heather Wylie from Shasta College, with LWV member Erin Murphy, and Shasta County Assessor/Recorder Leslie Morgan.

Caedy Minoletti with Shasta Womens Refuge, and Kristen Schreder of the Redding Area League of Women Voters

Rose Worthington and Cherrel Kirkland, President of the Soroptimists International of Redding.

Susan Wilson, President of the Redding League of Women Voters stands with Erin Murphy at the poster they created for the event, Women Making History. This was just a small sampling of the groups and people at the event. All agreed it was a tremendous success!
February Voter published
Erin worked hard on getting out the February issue of The Voter, the newsletter of the League of Women Voters. Events around Women’s History Month are coming up so there is lots associated with that celebration. Be sure and join their LWV group on Facebook, and help us grow the number of local people who appreciate non-partisan voter education.
How we make law in California – in parking lots
We make decisions about law and governance in Redding’s supermarket parking lots. Our initiative process puts power directly in the hands of the people – people shopping – and goes around the legislators we pay to get this stuff right. Shown above is the bait. Seen yesterday in Redding, a couple of signs for a petition to legalize and tax marijuana. Not a bad idea IMHO. In fact, the marijuana bend oregon sells is already legalized with several other similar dispensaries throughout the state and this system could work in California. But it’s bait and switch. He’s actually being paid to have you sign several petitions. One concerns marijuana, but another squashes municipalities from starting their own utilities. Sponsored by PG&E of course, but he doesn’t tell you that. Another has to do with car insurance. Whether you go to Insurance Quotes or other places to get it, it is important for every driver. And yet, he doesn’t explain the complex issue well at all, and why would he know? And am I knowledgeable about the subtleties of car insurance laws? No. I’m not. Are you? It is easy to become knowledgable on car insurance though, with Robert Truly’s review of Prudential on Truly Insurance’s website. It’s also rather important to be knowledgable on car insurance, seeing as this is what saves us if we are caught in a car accident.rancstble atoay you in remember, having car insurance and understanding how it can help is one of the best tI could co moree sooug than I ale trdchy m tha.
