Spotted this ugly cat rummaging around in my backyard last night, apparently cleaning snails in the pond(?). Have you misplaced your homely kitty who washes snails? You may claim it here.
It didn’t respond well to “Here kitty kitty.” It kind of hissed, actually.
Burney’s new wind power turbines visible from Redding
RS wag Bruce Ross was wondering if you could see the Burney wind turbines from Redding. Yep. These images were taken yesterday, shimmering in the heat.
This is from a ridge overlooking Walgreens and Starbucks on Lake Blvd.
Image taken with a fairly ordinary 200mm Nikon lens. You have to look hard in person, but you can see them.
Beautiful renewable energy (to run my air conditioning!) Now if only somebody can explain why these graceful machines had to be manufactured overseas, I’d be content. We used to actually build things in the U.S. Elegant and clever things…
A few more Lake Shasta images to inspire the boaters
ReallyRedding gets a makeover
Break out the vuvuzuelas! ReallyRedding gets a new look! Our old look was starting to appear tattered and worn out. The software was 5 years old; a dogs age in computerland terms. I nearly lost the entire blog back in ’09. It was time. Actually, it was way past time. But I’m always amazed when setting out to do something this ambitious in computerland and it actually works. I’m still tweaking (tweaking bad)…uh, fine tuning it here and there, but check it out.
This is the Pit River from the bridge at Big Bend CA. Just about 40 (or so) miles from Redding. Like another world. But not. Image from last Saturday.
It’s not Really Redding, but not far either.
Impulsive
A few days ago, I previewed a bank owned house located on Little Cow Creek in eastern Shasta County. Not far from that property, was this vision in a meadow. Pointed in the right direction, ready to head downstream in a Really Big Flood. Or maybe a rising sea.
Impulsive? Perhaps not. Planning ahead, I say. They laughed at Noah too, you know.
Kobe opens! A few quick images.
Coolest/hottest new restaurant in Redding. We welcome Kobe and wish them great success! The only thing more delicious than these images is actually eating there.
In addition to the flaming Teppanyaki cuisine sampled here, you can order up artistic sushi with a good selection of Sake. Menu and more at the website for Kobe Seafood and Steakhouse. Lunch: 12:00 pm – 2:30pm 7 Days a week. Dinner : 5:00pm ~ 9:30 pm Sun-Thu, 5:00pm ~ 10:00pm Fri-Sat. Located at 1300 Market Street at the corner of Shasta Street. (530)244-1440.
It’s Really Redding.
Cottonwood kids find a cave on Mars
Check it out! A group of kids from Evergreen School found a skylight to a Martian lava tube. A familiar geological feature to Northern California cavers, here in volcano country. Real science, but then we have high expectations of our kids around here. Click the image for more. Congratulations Evergreen!

Gorgeous days on Lake Shasta
Strawberry Fields forever
I took this image at the Certified Organic Farmer’s Market last Saturday. Looks like the number of vendors and farmers has seen a certifiably healthy increase.
However you can also buy from local farms direct, all week long. This Strawberry Farm is on Hwy 299E, just across from Intermountain Road in Bella Vista.
Strawberries figure large in the Redding area, and have been important since pioneer days, and no doubt long before that too.
A couple other favorite strawberry fields are on Bonneyview west of I-5, and another at the corner of Shasta View and Old Alturas Road. Oh, and shouldn’t forget the field west of Deschutes, near Foothill High School, and off Knighton Road at Churn Creek. Yum.
Our wet Spring conditions this year were less than ideal for the berries, but they remain a staple at our house. They’re Really Redding.
