Esperanza and Luis sell their Tamales at the Farmer’s Market in Redding. A yummy tamal in the morning makes the rest of the day go well (just $2). They have beef, pork, chicken, and a veggie version. All good. We like them all. You can get their salsa, and put on red or green sauce, and sour creme even. Delicious. Then, take home a half dozen or so fresh ones for dinner later (just $10). Steam them up, and wow. Wow.
As an aside, Redding based Esperanza Tamales only sells at Farmer’s markets. While they would like to have a storefront operation, they just don’t have the means to put that together. Hmm. Maybe you have an empty storefront in town. You’re not alone. There’s about a million square feet of empty commercial space in Redding. Maybe you could make these folks a deal. Low startup, moving to a better net as they build. Could be a better option for your other tenants than just another marijuana collective. Or maybe a good addition to an otherwise vacant strip mall. These tamales generate traffic. Just ask the other vendors at the Farmer’s Market. They all eat here. Call Esperanza (530) 222 8541 if this idea started some gears moving in your mind.
I’d eat there.

Fiddling with Windows 7 today
Been messing with Micro$oft’s latest OS here the last few hours, trying to get my workstation back to useful. I like Windows 7 so far, but it’s the usual M$ nerd fest. This is appropriate:
I haven’t had an Apple computer in years, but lately I’ve been mighty tempted. We use a lot of computers around here, and gradually I have grown less patient with all the constant fiddly bits to keep Windows running. I could go on about it…..(and on and on today…)
Redding League of Women Voters growing online
Erin and I have been working on helping to get the Redding League of Women Voters more online. They have long had a website and a print newsletter, but it’s a real adjustment to go more online. It will be worth the effort. The League has always played an important role in offering non-biased information of public interest, and surely in this wired world, the need is stronger than ever. Your right to accurate and factual information before a vote is a right worth fighting for. They are just getting started. You can join the group on Facebook.

You may also read and/or subscribe the online newsletter at The Voter (http://www.LWVRedding.info). Better yet, you can contribute to the information and discussion at either place. Get on board!
Unintentionally ironic RS headline
My printed paper arrived totally soaked today. Obviously the carrier didn’t bother reading the headline! Perhaps he thought he was delivering the online version.

At least we were able to enjoy the Alliteration of the second header, Pot Plantations Problematic on Private Property. Good one, fellas.
Sawblade yard art in Bella Vista
“Saw” this yard sculpture at a probate property sale in Bella Vista yesterday and just had to post it. You can picture the scene:
“Grandpa, what are you going to do with all those old sawblades?” asked Grandma.
“I’m making a ‘saw horse,’ get it? Hee!” he replied.
Grandpa was a hoot. Even painted mostly aqua blue, it’s a little hard to make it out in the photo, but it’s striking enough in person. You can buy Grandma and Grandpa’s old 2 acre slice of Bella Vista life, including their 2 pigeon coops(?) for $179K.

I get interviewed on KRCR News Channel 7
Orville Thomas of local ABC affiliate KRCR News Channel 7 interviewed me over the weekend about the impending deadline for the federal first time homebuyer tax credit. We spoke for quite a while at a home for sale where I am representing a first time homebuyer in escrow. Orville is a bright and articulate guy, so it was fun. We were in a bank-owned home where the seller is represented by Robin Rivera. My buyer had an emergency at the last minute, so Orville interviewed me instead, and ran with it. I think it turned out okay.
Always fun to see myself on TV. Thanks Orville!
From Redding's newest church to it's oldest
Last week I featured Redding’s newest church. At least I think it was the newest. This one is our oldest, I think. A difference of 115 years.

Here we see PG&E starting the pilot light on the heater for the coming winter. I found it surprisingly bright inside, illuminated by natural light.

There was an article in redding.com about the intention to move the church to make way for development. But not enough money was raised, and the idea has languished. Given the current glut of vacant commercial property in town, perhaps the church will be spared for a while longer. I couldn’t find anything about the current congregation on the web. When it was built, it was the Zion African Methodist-Episcopal church. There were churches built in Redding prior to this one. Most were larger, but all were burnt or demolished. Only this humble testament to faith remains.
New trailhead on Clear Creek looks totally inviting
One of Redding's newest churches

Risen King Church on Oasis road across from Gold Hills is one of the newest church buildings in town. Maybe the very newest in fact. Looks like these folks moved here in June from a building on Mistletoe. It’s lovely building, and today it beckoned me stop as I drove by. I need to photograph this. What a nice day, and the building looks terrific.

This Baptist Church appears to be very web-friendly. They have a large site HERE, and at the The Stirring, whose car stickers you see around town. At their website, I watched an interesting online video of baptisms in Whiskeytown Lake.
Really Redding.
Big Bike Weekend coming -Also Big Bike Drags
As web dude for the Redding Dragstrip, I sometimes give the illusion of being able to generate graphic art. Dragstrip president Bob Lidell asked me to “whip up” a poster for the big event at the Redding Dragstrip. Saturday looks like big fun, and Sunday has bracket racers all day. If you are a biker in town looking for the action, you can find it at the Dragstrip on Saturday and Sunday for just $10 to get in all day. It’s bound to be a spectacle. Anyway this was my poster effort, after much swearing. Print is not the same as web graphics.
