Delta Fire pyrocumulus from the 3 Shastas overlook

Expand to Full Screen for 4K resolution.

Timelapse 4K 1 frame per second, 9/5/2018. The very aggressive Delta Fire, burning just north of Lakehead.

Fire season this year is like nothing anyone has ever seen.

Anyone aware acknowledges that years of fire suppression and lack of adequate fuel reduction has created ticking time bombs in our local forests. This year, several exploded.

Underneath is all is the anthropomorphic climate warming factor. Several “warmest years ever” contributed to this terrible season. I don’t know how much of a factor climate was, and neither do you. But now anyone can visualize a worst case scenario where runaway thermal changes create constant explosive wildfire dangers. The effects of climate warming were predicted to take place across many years. I didn’t expect to see those effects so vividly on display in my lifetime. Is this our new normal?

Fireworks for the 4th in Redding 2018

We celebrate Independence Day in Redding with a big free fireworks show put on every year by the generous McConnell foundation. Here it is as I captured 4K video from a friend’s kitchen in the west hills. 20 minutes condensed to 30 seconds, or so.

If you use the YouTube controls, you can see this in full 4K video. I like how it turned out.

Personal fireworks are forbidden in Shasta County, for good reason. This place is very flammable in Summer. But this big free show really makes up for that restriction.

Free fireworks shows, that’s Really Redding.

A Sundial Solstice 2018

Captured this lovely image of the sunrise on the Solstice with our own Sundial Bridge in the foreground. Click the image to slightly expand, and you can see a great many people on the bridge deck enjoying Yoga.
In Redding on the longest day of the year, some begin with yoga at a very picturesque setting. That’s Really Redding.

Superb Owl Sunday

Spotted these acrobatically inclined individuals north of the Sundial Bridge, whilst there was some sort of big game on TV.

The Hilltop Drive trailhead to Sacramento River Trail

Hike Redding! Image captured during a break in the weather on a January day from above the Hilltop Dive trailhead to the river trail. This section of trail gets plenty of use. You can park on Hilltop and be rewarded with a pleasant aerobic walk down to the river and back. Click to enlarge:

Here’s the trailhead on a sunnier day.

A glorious finale to a fine Fall day in Redding

I captured these images from the boat launch on the Sacramento River at Caldwell Park a few evenings ago.

If only passengers could see us in the daylight!

It was very beautiful. I can’t help but wonder how it would be if passenger trains could traverse our river city by daylight instead of the middle of the night, like they do now. Years ago, the region enjoyed the Shasta Daylight, a passenger train that came through by day.

Railroad and River. That’s Really Redding.

Sunset in The Vineyard

The Vineyard is a gated community in northeast Redding for active, over 55 adults. It’s a truly great neighborhood, and is also very pretty. I happened to be out there helping a client sell her home, when I noticed the November sunset was particularly stunning.

Here are some other images of The Vineyards I recently captured. Below, their clubhouse:

And below, two of the lakes:

It’s a great place to live, and the beauty there is unmatched. Where better to live out your sunset years than a place with actual sunsets like these? The Vineyard is Really Redding.

Images of Redding from the West

A view of my favorite city beneath a snowbound Lassen Peak. Taken from a friend’s home in West Redding. And look for Redding’s big flag in the lower middle. Thank you Enterprise Lion’s Club for maintaining Redding’s iconic big flag!

Below, the Sundial Bridge from the same vantage point. You don’t often see the bridge juxtaposed with Best Buy, but here it is.

Really Redding is really beautiful.

The Miracle Mile in Redding

As seen from 100 meters, the morning after the longest night in 2016. Click to enlarge.

That’s north Hilltop Drive on the left. If this is your morning commute, congratulations!
It’s Really Redding.
