It’s difficult to believe, but a liquor store is going out of business in Redding.
Tenor’s belied it’s last-chance location with focused selection, and an incongruous ability to engage staff with a well informed conversation about single malt Scotch.
I’m told the owner’s interests shifted elsewhere, and so it goes.
Before it was Tenor’s, it was Roy’s. A blue collar standby. The property was slated for a game-changing upscale hotel. But big league dreams sometimes come and go in our town.
A toast to Tenor’s, then. Followed by a stiff shot. What dreams may come.
Meanwhile, 10% off for cash buyers on what remains in stock, for a few fleeting days.
Modern dance as Frank Zappa conducts -brief video
Here’s a real YouTube gem. Frank Zappa’s final performance in 1992 in Frankfurt. Having spent the last couple months watching/videographing Erin Rader and Max Friedman’s practice for last Saturday’s Cascade Theatre benefit performance, this dance became even more impressive to me. Take a look, and turn it up.
“G-Spot Tornado.” Nice work, orchestra and dancers. I have a far better appreciation for the difficulty of that complex dance routine now.
Frank Zappa was brilliant and irreplaceable. The brief Coda, and the ovation at the conclusion hits hard. Thanks, Frank.

Images of 4th of July in Mt Shasta City 2012
In nearby Mt Shasta, they celebrate Independence Day like any small town. Everyone running or walking through town en masse, past musicians, clowns, and fairies. Pausing briefly to grab something to eat or drink, but always walking around, and seeing everyone else doing the same. Brilliant!

Happy Independence Day to all of us!
Sunset on Whiskeytown Lake
Took this image yesterday. Not overly colorful or bright for a Whiskeytown Lake sunset. More subtle and tranquil.

These are sized 1920 X 1200 for a Desktop Background image, although they are rather dark for my tastes. But feel free to use either, if you like.

Earlier we attended a dinner party in west Redding. This was the view from the pool:
Sublime sunset reflections. That’s Really Redding.
Follow Alicia from Redding to… Uganda?
I need to bring Alicia’s excellent blog, Pedals and Pencils, to your attention.
Redding teacher/writer/blogger Alica McCauley is spending her summer on an epic journey to Uganda. Her writing is always terrific, and has been even more interesting as the story unfolds.

http://pedalsandpencils.com/
Recently, there was an article in the local paper about her plans.
http://www.redding.com/news/2012/jun/05/boulder-creek-teacher-plans-to-help-students-in/
Oddly, it failed to mention her blog at all. You can start on any of her posts for a richly rewarding read. But if you are most intrigued about her recent journeys, you might start here and read forward:

Very highly recommended, and quite inspiring. Safe journey, Alica.
You’re Really Redding.

A Springtime Quail Love Song does the trick
I was waiting for a client to arrive for a showing at a home for sale in Bella Vista. Out back, this lonely male was singing his Springtime Lovesong, from the top of a propane tank.
Evidently, to good effect.

Rooftop outdoor living, Redding style
Like the rooftop terraces in Rome, this Redding ranch style home boasts an outdoor setting with a view.

Okay, so it’s a little slanted at an angle, and the view is of Lake Boulevard, but it’s different.

As seen Saturday. Careful you don’t roll off the “terrace” and into the trashbins. Hey, it’s not a flaw, it’s a convenience.
