Ruby's "We'll fetch your lunch!" startup brings on the flavor

I ran into foody entrepreneur Cheryl Gomes yesterday on her daily delivery run. Her lunch delivery business is named after her dog Ruby. She will bring you lunch if you call or e-mail her before 7:30 am that day. She takes special care in her preparation to make sure sandwiches don’t arrive soggy. Cheryl is a treat on her own, and her delivery is sure to brighten your day and satisfy your lunchtime needs. Call her at (530) 921 1587, or e-mail her at rubysdish@gmail.com. Highly recommended!

Baby Black Phoebe has no safety net

We hope you join us today, and pause to remember those who sacrificed all for freedom.

We remember those who sacrificed all

I have a shot of a fledgling Black Phoebe from the nest under my shed’s eave.
Baby bird
The baby’s parents work all day, from sunup to sundown. They have no Social Security, or insurance, or police. No bailouts or or safety nets of any kind. Underneath the nest, neighborhood cats wander by and pretend to be casual. It’s a poignant lesson in self-reliance and family.

Where the rubber meets the track on Kool April Nites

Jet car
Hope to see you at Kool April Drags this evening, and over the rest of the weekend. The weather is supposed to be perfect.
 car
I’m only a casual fan, but I run their website. This event is their biggest of the year, and with dueling jet cars after dark, no less. Definitely worth coming out. They’ve made a lot of track improvements.

This is oldest continuously operating dragstrip in the US. A longtime Redding tradition.

Obama

An orderly change of government. Change we can hope for.

Please end this war in Iraq.

Please put the US back to work.

Please restore our place of respect in the world.

Not too much to ask for, I hope.

Just seeing your face as president means so much.

We are the United States of America.

Mortgage modification

Mortgages are often very difficult to understand. If you’re going to be applying for a mortgage, it’s important that you know how to get the best option for you because otherwise, you’ll struggle to pay for it. If you don’t have any credit history, then you will find it very hard to find a good rate so you should look at credit cards for people with no credit so you are able to build a score that will get you a score that will give you a mortgage you can afford. If you accept a mortgage that you won’t be able to support financially then you may lose your house. Luckily, there are steps you can take to improve your financial situation if you are currently struggling, like a mortgage modification. If you are interested in learning more about mortgage modifications for first time home buyers your preferred mortgage broker may be able to help.

A mortgage modification is where a troubled homeowner can renegotiate the terms of their mortgage to make it affordable. I have been dismayed to see so many scams recently appear to take advantage of the people who are in mortgage trouble, preying on the most vulnerable. Here’s a link to the only legitimate site I know, Making homes Affordable. Never pay anyone for this free information.

Avoid the many scam artists we see popping up. I hope this helps somebody.

Emotional election night

I suspect there were few dry eyes in America last night. I know mine weren’t. We saw history, some of it ending, and some just beginning. I’ll leave the political commentary to the other bloggers, however. If you are near my age, you have seen many changes in the way we consider race in the U.S. Sometimes the changes are slow to come, and sometimes they arrive in an instant. Last night that paradigm shift moment arrived via TV for me, with Charlie Gibson stating “We are ready to predict the winner….” The winner was all of us.

I enjoyed the Onion’s take on things. Click HERE. Warning, link contains ironic humor.

The music in the player is by Craig Padilla. It’s an excerpt from the song titled Vast Emotions. It’s one of my favorites from the 1996 CD Eye of the Storm. My emotions were vast indeed. The music reminds me that Obama has big job ahead. Let’s all wish him luck, because we’ll all need it.

Fire in the neighborhood again

Pfft. The power went out only for a second. Enough to reboot. Later the sirens came.
Wildfire in north Redding
We’re told it was woodpecker this time. Last time it was a flaming squirrel.

With a light breeze at my back, I feel better about this. It’s not moving fast and it’s going the other way.
