We took in some local theater at Riverfront. They had some awesome finger food before the show served up by Jewel’s Catering. And dessert at intermission.

Excellent wine pours by longtime thespian Jet Thomas.

“A Bench in the Sun” is about a couple of grumpy old guys vying for the attention of an aged actress who comes into their lives.

Ha ha! We know they’re old because one of them is reading a newspaper. I found I couldn’t identify with the humor…much.

REALTOR Affiliate night at the Riverfront. This longtime local theater troupe is seeking to raise funds for a new location on Pine Street. Check out this funny show through April 16th, and spend a few dollars towards their new facility. It will be a much nicer place to catch a play. More at their website, RiverfrontPlayhouse.net.

All the world’s a stage; it’s Really Redding.
Put your kid in this crab
We like the amusing Craigslist ads, here at RR. You just can’t make these up. This from Barter yesterday:

“Asken $65” seems like it ought to be a word, somehow. We all know what he meant. Still, even us locals might be wondering what kind of aluminum boat you might get for the equivalent value of a $65 crab, or crib. And was it necessary to admit that his son has been “out of it for along time now?” Lets face facts here. We’ve all been out of it, at one time or another.
Amusing Craigslist ads. It’s Really Red Bluff.
Visualizing friendships
Ran into this interesting blogpost over at Facebook by Paul Butler. A statistician plotted pairs of friendships by location, and came up with this really interesting graphic.

Click on the image to enlarge to 3.3mb. It’s a persuasive graphic. And, in view of the fact that founder Mark Z has been named Time Magazine’s person of the year, it seems even more compelling. Do read the blogpost.
Me, I haven’t been much of Facebook fan. I suppose I should be. In my line of work, much of the value I bring is in knowing people and networking, and it appears FB has really become “all that.” The very real privacy concerns are well justified. But again, being a “secret agent” in the real estate field leads to slow starvation. So much for personal privacy.
I am resolved to do better at Facebook. I think you can find me at this link. “Friend” me and I’ll try to be a better online amigo.

Erin’s Thanksgiving in Mexico
Here’s some tropical weather for you to bring the heat on a brisk Redding December day. Erin spent Thanksgiving in Mexico with some friends for a wedding on a Princess Cruise ship. Looks like fun. Lobster for Thanksgiving? Well, alrighty then…
All shot with a small Nikon point and shoot camera. Not ReallyRedding, but not bad either.
A Black Friday sunrise

Jonsi in concert
Craig Padilla told me there was going to be an extraordinary video concert simulcast yesterday on NPR, of all places. Jonsi is the lead singer of Sigur Ros, a big favorite of mine. The concert did not disappoint. Hey, it’s still available to see for today only, at the NPR site. Well worth a view. Jonsi integrates art and music in a really different manner. Again like yesterday, its not ReallyRedding, but it is Really Interesting, and in the greater scheme of things, an online concert simulcast has no actual geographic location. The wolf and deer imagery was genuinely spectacular, and the final tune with the storm imagery had me by the throat. Jonsi’s singing is pretty unique. Check it out.

Homemade SUV
Spotted this homemade crossover vehicle at the Farmers Market on Saturday. It seems to have been fashioned from a Ford Festiva.

Probably gets great mileage for an SUV. Looks really cool too. Obviously the work of creative mind. Maybe Ford should take a look.

The workmanship on this little beauty is first rate. Really nice metalflake paint.

It doesnt’ look that safe, but even if you drive an unmodified Festiva, then driving safety probably isn’t your first priority anyway. Looks like big fun though

A homemade SUV. Now that’s Really Redding.
Sikh Center in Anderson

This type of architecture is not commonly seen in buildings of worship around here. This is the Sikh Center in Anderson. There is also a Sikh Temple nearby, pictured below. I found this on their website:
“With Waheguru’s grace Dr. Harvinder Singh Birk got a vision of setting up Gurudwara Sahib near Redding CA by donating 8 Acres of Land for this noble cause. This Sikh Center Gurudwara will be the First one in the Redding area, which is about 150 miles North of Sacramento in the foothills of mountains and in the near vicinity of Mount Shasta.
I didn’t know much about the Sikh faith when I started this post, but this information from Wikipedia provided a good overview. Here’s a snippet:
Sikhism believes in one supreme God. The Sikh school of thought started by Guru Nanak teaches gender and race equality, sharing, working hard and honestly, being honest, contentment, selfless service, talking sweetly, worshiping naam, good etiquette, tradition, prayer, meditation, the concept of miri-piri, the concept of the saint-soldier/warrior, remembering God all the time in all actions, keeping in good company, proper sexual conduct, the life of a house person instead of becoming a celibate monk and rejecting the world, compassion, faith, justice, mastery, righteous actions, bravery, courage, love for God, humility, salvation, the afterlife, the law of karma (karam) which is counteracted by dharma (dharam), charity, and good will to humanity.
Sounds like Sikhs have a lot in common with the other faiths that make up the rich tapestry of our local community spirituality. Plus this lovely architecture for the temple, or gurdwara. Again from Wikipedia:
There are no idols, statues, or religious pictures in a Gurdwara, but the essential feature of a gurdwara is the presiding presence of the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib. The Sikhs hold high respect for the commandments laid down in the Guru Granth Sahib.

It’s ReallyRedding.
