Or perhaps the boat collided with the car? We came upon this odd scene today. Karry snapped a few images as we gingerly rolled by. We hope everyone’s okay.
Boating accidents where you least expect them. That’s Really Redding.
April showers bring May flowers
May Day images in Redding 2011
This season has proven to be an extraordinary Spring, with an abundance of wildflowers, water in creeks, and birds in the trees. It was a wet end to Winter, but a magic May Day ensues.
Popped my head over the bridge, and spotted these two enjoying the sun by the river.
That reminded me of this image from Redding long ago.

Happy Cows
Happy cattle, anyway.
Well presumably happy, standing there in a meadow of flowers, one achingly beautiful Spring day in Shasta County. Surrounded by bright green oaks and a fabric of clouds, they cluster for company.
I was reminded of a saying by a cattleman I know. “We provide a good life for them, followed by one bad day.” Something like that. This looks like a good day…
Fence to keep me from wandering over to join them in the meadow, to stand and gaze at the rolling waves of golden flowers. Wildflowers, it’s Really Redding.
Dry Creek misnamed apparently
The sign says Dry Creek. It’s not.
In a few more days, if the sun comes out this creek will run through verdant green fields blazing with Shasta County wildflowers. This is a stunningly beautiful creek in the Springtime, as it winds down from Jones Valley to Bella Vista. Driving up Dry Creek Road from Highway 299, you catch glimpses of what the valley must have looked like 200 years ago, with laughing creeks splashing over green hill and dale on their way to the Bay. Don’t miss the wildflowers this water year…
Bella vistas in springtime Bella Vista. It’s Really Redding.
Aurora Borealis in time lapse
Gorgeous video of the Aurora Borealis from Norway. Well worth your 2 minutes if you haven’t seen it. Having done some minimal time lapse photography myself, it becomes even more impressive. Every short bit of imagery took an entire evening (in snow) to shoot, This year, old Sol is quite active, so the charged particles are intense. Wow. Kudos to artist Terje Sorgjerd, who used 22,000 photographs to make this stunning video.

From Astronomy Picture of the Day. Not Really Redding, but really beautiful. Really Earth.
Night photo of a downtown Redding building
Here’s a building that looks lovely in night lighting. Lots of architectural detail in contrast to the night.
I think this is a Cal Trans office. I believe they moved here from the former shampoo factory in the Mountain Lakes Industrial Park. A building we recall as Jhirmac, long ago. In relocation, I heard they saved this building’s owner from financial peril, since it was recently built and had no tenants in our present harsh economy. Vacancy is a bad thing indeed for spec building. Getting Cal Trans there was quite the prize. Unfortunately for the owner of the now vacated shampoo building, the financial peril transferred to them. Without much warning, either. Or so I’ve heard. Anyway, this downtown Redding building is quite lovely at night.
Architecture by the warm orange glow of sodium lighting, it’s Really Redding.
Shasta Women’s Refuge Crab Feed 2011
We have a place for women and their children to come, when threats and violence overtake their lives. It’s a shame that such a place need exist, but we live in a world where you can be glad that refuge is granted for those in need of it. One of the big fundraisers for this worthy cause is their annual Crab Feed, held at the Anderson Fairgrounds. We went to represent the Shasta Association of Realtors, and I took some photos.
Thanks to all the volunteers and donors! Volunteerism, it’s ReallyRedding.
