Redding alt rockers Hollow Ln

Redding alt rock band Hollow LnHere’s a band performance image from the now closed Downtown Eatery. Hollow Ln is a Redding based (and Redding named) 3 piece outfit; guitar, bass, drum, and vocals. Tight, tight, tight, power trio originals are filled with thoughtful lyrics. Brandon Bausell works it hard on Vocals and Guitar. Nick Braun punctuates the tunes with insanely creative drumming. Not your 4 on the floor stuff! Max Bausell provides the solid basis for the often staccato melodies on Bass. Head over to Reverbnation and play their 12 well recorded demos all in a row. Awesome. Surprising. They’re playing Bombay’s March 23.

Bill Cosby at the Cascade

Cascade Theatre in Redding CABill Cosby appeared at the Cascade for 2 shows last night. Both sold out, from the looks of things.
Bill’s humor fit the mostly over 50 crowd like a well worn shoe. Sometimes I could hear the punchline from the audience before the performer.
The Cascade seems to be booking some higher end shows lately. For example, Bonnie Raitt plays there next week, no less. Bookings can be a gamble in a town with no excess of discretionary income. But the Cascade is truly a magical venue.
He’s a class act, of course.

So what is it about those Reddingites who wish to become part of the show themselves? I suppose if you paid $75 for a ticket, you might feel justified. You aren’t.

At one point Bill himself became annoyed by an audience member up front, continually scrunching a water bottle. IMHO, Cosby has always been a bit of a preachy guy (ahem, says the editor, watch out for hurling stones from your glass house), so the interruption gave him reason to go off with a brief, good-natured rant. He got back on track, and finished. Gave a wave, and walked off stage. A good time was had by all. Shows at the Cascade, it’s Really Redding.

Shasta Women’s Refuge Crab Feed 2011

We have a place for women and their children to come, when threats and violence overtake their lives. It’s a shame that such a place need exist, but we live in a world where you can be glad that refuge is granted for those in need of it. One of the big fundraisers for this worthy cause is their annual Crab Feed, held at the Anderson Fairgrounds. We went to represent the Shasta Association of Realtors, and I took some photos.

Thanks to all the volunteers and donors! Volunteerism, it’s ReallyRedding.

Crabby New Year!

Buz’s Crab is a Redding institution. We are lucky to live within a reasonable radius of a truck drive to the coast for fresh Dungeness Crab. Buz’s always has fresh plenty of fresh seafood. Consequently, this is a very popular tradition around here, making for a tasty but crabby finish to the old year. Happy New Year from ReallyRedding!

38th Annual Special Needs Kids Christmas Party

The 38th Annual Special Needs Kids Christmas Party was held at the Elks Lodge again this year. Organized by the Shasta Association of REALTORS Social Committee. The event was a great success, as always. Here’s a short video offering a taste of what was missed if you weren’t there for this heartwarming event. Thanks to all the participants and the vendors who helped!

A few Images of Art on the Wild Side

Art on the Wild Side in Redding CAArt on the Wild Side in Redding CA>Wine, cheese and fruit were served to the patrons of the Art on the Wild Side sale and auction held at Win River last Saturday to benefit the Shasta Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation center.
We saw some really inspirational art and crafts, sampled some excellent vintages, and enjoyed the always terrific hospitality of Win River. Some lovely art pieces went for bargain prices too, although we hope the center raised an appropriate amount for their good cause. Ray John did the auctioning.
Art on the Wild Side in Redding CA owlThere were several critters on hand to add to the scene. Their was also live music provided by Craig Padilla, to the accompaniment of slides of the various animals and projects that have been helped.
