Impulsive
A few days ago, I previewed a bank owned house located on Little Cow Creek in eastern Shasta County. Not far from that property, was this vision in a meadow. Pointed in the right direction, ready to head downstream in a Really Big Flood. Or maybe a rising sea.
Impulsive? Perhaps not. Planning ahead, I say. They laughed at Noah too, you know.

Cottonwood kids find a cave on Mars
Check it out! A group of kids from Evergreen School found a skylight to a Martian lava tube. A familiar geological feature to Northern California cavers, here in volcano country. Strawberry Fields forever
I took this image at the Certified Organic Farmer’s Market last Saturday. Looks like the number of vendors and farmers has seen a certifiably healthy increase.
However you can also buy from local farms direct, all week long. This Strawberry Farm is on Hwy 299E, just across from Intermountain Road in Bella Vista.
Strawberries figure large in the Redding area, and have been important since pioneer days, and no doubt long before that too.
A couple other favorite strawberry fields are on Bonneyview west of I-5, and another at the corner of Shasta View and Old Alturas Road. Oh, and shouldn’t forget the field west of Deschutes, near Foothill High School, and off Knighton Road at Churn Creek. Yum.
Our wet Spring conditions this year were less than ideal for the berries, but they remain a staple at our house. They’re Really Redding.

Shasta Lake School

Longtime residents may remember this school as Deer Creek. Now a modern K-8, having benefited much from school bond funds, this lovely building displays our community’s commitment to our young. The Gateway District has a terrific program.
School’s out for a couple months, giving staff a needed break. Are there more under-appreciated workers than those teachers who keep the lid on hormonal middle school kids during a Shasta County Spring? Not a job for the weak of spirit. Have a great Summer, all. Classes start again soon enough (August!).
