Redding’s 15th Annual Beer and Wine Festival

We attended this year’s 15th Annual Redding Beer and Wine Festival at the Promenade, and I took a few shots, er, photographs.

Some standouts include Gaia’s Woodside Grill, Market Street Steakhouse, Bricks Smokehouse, Grilla Bites, CR Gibbs, and seen pouring here, Shameless O’Leery’s.

We tried some terrific home brew from the Shasta SOB (Society of Brewers) club. And of course there was so much fine wine. It was a great opportunity to try out vintners like Matson and wineries from the Manton wine country. We had some great tastings at the Mosely Family Cellar booth.

Beer Boats Bullets and Booze Inc.

David Benda’s article today about local foreclosures declining in number was in stark contrast to the numerous Notices of Default in legal notices section of the paper. The back pages also featured a long list of property tax delinquencies.
delinquenciesGlancing at the list, one company name stood out.
more delinquenciesCool name, and mission statement, all in one. I’m sure it won’t take them long to catch up on their property tax. But if I were Tax Collector Lori Scott, I’d be hesitant to go after it in person. 😉

Music and Racing set for Redding this weekend

SCO at BombaysRedding art music fans will be pleased to learn SCO is playing Bombays. I got this note:
“Name change and a show on September 15th at Bombay’s. I just got a flyer for an upcoming show by these “warlocks.” They’ve changed their name to Symbiotic Cacophony Orchestra (like the status listed below).”
So, you can log in over at Facebook to Like the Symbiotic Cacophony Orchestra at the link.

Redding DragstripIf original Redding style music isn’t enough to keep you entertained this weekend, you can head over to the Redding Dragstip for the combined Pacific National Open Series and National Dragster Challenge. 3 days of racing. One of the biggest races of the season. Just 10 bucks gets you in. More at the Redding Dragstrip website, or just click on the flaming shifter knob, of course.

Kuebler’s Furniture hosts Greeters

We attended a Chamber of Commerce event at Kuebler’s Furniture in Redding.
Greeters at Kueblers
Kuebler’s had everyone do kind of an Easter Egg hunt through the store for prizes.

Erin Murphy in Redding CAKueblers has a lot of funiture to admire, obviously. But it’s also a great place to scope out some design ideas. It was our first appearance among the Chamber members as The Address Realty, so Erin spoke briefly about her new enterprise. Everyone was very encouraging. Thanks Kuebler’s, and thanks Chamber.

A day of reflection

Our hearts go out to the families of those killed in the 9/11 attack. And today we are reflective, in quiet observance of the blood and treasure spent in the decade since.

This photo is of Karry and me in a different New York. It’s a poignant reminder that every time you kiss or hug a loved one goodbye for even the most mundane separation, it may turn out to be the last time. But such is the nature of life.

Contemplative music video for a morning meditation

Ran across this on You Tube. A prolific poster going by 10zen10 has created a music video with pretty bird images taken by photographer Daniel O’Byrne. It’s set to the music I helped create along with Craig Padilla and Zero Ohms a few years back, a piece called Realm of the Spirit, from the CD Beyond the Portal, released on the Lotuspike label. A nice meditation moment to begin the day today.

Interesting, how these video pieces using our music that turn up, unannounced. Released into the wild, the music finds it’s own path.

Imaginative Burney Falls mural graces Pine Street

Twisted Burney Falls in Redding CATitled “Twisted Burney Falls,” this large mural is seen on Pine Street in Redding at The Darkside and Tatooing. Painter Guy Hailey seems to have captured the living essence of the watery rock in moonlight beneath the world famous magical waterfall that lies to the east of Redding in Burney.
Twisted Burney Falls in Redding CAAlways nice to see large displays of public art like this unapologetic mural on an otherwise nondescript building. Nice work, Guy. It’s Really Redding.Darkside Tatooing

Moss no mas

Moss Lumber closes in Redding CAYesterday we learned that Moss Lumber would be closing it’s doors for the last time. The current economic downturn has been extremely rough on all the trades, but none so much as building. The Redding store with its teepee burner out front is a local landmark.

David Benda wrote a blogpost about it that was of interest. There’s a lot of this sort of thing going around, but it still hits very hard. We sincerely wish the best to the Moss family and their crew.
